hailey's birthday

hailey turned 8 on the 29th of january. we celebrated with 30 of her closest friends at they gym where the girls take gymnastics.

this is a picture of her with her doll from oma. our oma (my mom) has bought the girls a doll from the madame alexander collection for every birthday since they were 1.

the girls are obsessed with labeling their room as their own...like there's a chance we'll forge who's territory we're in. i thought these were really funny....

hailey's house
i did my best to capture hailey's creativity on film...her house is really complex. it has a front flap that folds up and if you look through the door and the mailbox, you can see a 3-d image behind them.

i promised grandparents i would post some of the girls' artwork. there seems to be an endless supply and we are running out of places to store it all...don't know what we'll do when we're in a high rise in manhattan! recently, the girls made houses out of nothing but paper and tape. we were amazed at their creativity and patience. mom and dad had no hand in these at all. the girls just locked themselves away in the downstairs play room for 3 days and had a blast. i love that our girls are happier with a piece of paper and a pencil than the latest gadgets or tv shows.

we have one of those homes with really high ceilings (20 feet to be exact). we often wondered, "what do you do when a light goes out?"
we recently found out...you put a ladder on your coffee table and climb on up!

maddy's friend lucas came over for a playdate recently. he's a big fan of celine dion, so he and maddy danced to the dvd. lucas gave maddy her first kiss (on the cheek) on new year's. her dad was standing right there. we got a small glimpse of how protective daddy really is about his little girls.
